Items of Note

Our annual Community Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) evening will be held on Wednesday 25 February 2026 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Art Gallery of St. Albert, 19 Perron Street, St. Albert. This is a great event during which our club honours local citizens with a PHF award. If you have not already done so, please register here.

Dear Rotarians of District 5370,

As we discussed during our recent District Town Hall, our hearts remain with the community of Tumbler Ridge. In true Rotary fashion, many of you have asked how we can move beyond words and into action to support our neighbors during this incredibly difficult time.

We have been in close contact with the District of Tumbler Ridge to ensure our efforts are directed where they are needed most. They have suggested two primary avenues for support; please find a summary of each below, with more detailed information provided in the attachments.

  • Tumbler Ridge Community Resilience Fund Established by the Northeast BC Community Foundation, this fund is dedicated to the long-term healing of the community. It focuses on providing the sustained resources necessary to navigate the aftermath of the tragedy in the months and years to come.

  • Lakeview Credit Union (PAC Fund) In partnership with the Tumbler Ridge Parent Advisory Council, this fund is designed for immediate aid. It focuses on directly assisting those families and individuals most acutely affected by the recent events.

Both options offer a meaningful way for our clubs and individual members to show Tumbler Ridge they are not alone. Whether providing immediate relief or supporting long-term recovery, your generosity will make a tangible difference.

Thank you for your continued compassion and for embodying the spirit of Rotary when it is needed most.

Yours in Rotary,

Ramesh Ferris

Rotarians, spouses and Rotaractors from Rotary Clubs of St. Albert and Edmonton Northeast were in Cofradia, Mexico last week volunteering with Project Amigo. The theme of this service week was Culture and Literacy. Our volunteers spent time with young Mexican students helping them read and make some crafts while also learning about their culture. They also visited the University of Colima, saw traditional mask makers in Suchitlan and visited the school near a migrant camp near Queseria. Overall, a great and inspirational week. Special thanks to our cruise directors Darel and Kelly Baker for putting this all together!

Ron Burch was inducted into the Rotary Club of St. Albert on January 23, 2026. He is shown here with Idy Agbonison (Membership), President Ed Hunt and sponsor Craig Malin. Welcome to the club Ron!!

WHAT ARE DISASTER RESPONSE GRANTS?

When communities are affected by catastrophes, The Rotary Foundation supports relief and recovery efforts through grants from the Rotary Disaster Response
Fund.

Disaster response grants of up to US$25,000 fund relief and recovery efforts in areas that have had a natural disaster within the past six months. These efforts can include providing basic items such as water, food, medicine, and clothing. Districts that have had a disaster and are qualified to receive Rotary grants can apply for a grant to launch their own projects or work with established relief organizations.

Think about how you want to take part in grant programs. Which one interests you?
